As for pressure to follow up "Riot's" success, Farro says that "there's always gonna be pressure. We tried to push that aside and just make a record we loved. The fans might not like it, and they might think it's too different and whatnot, but at the end of the day we love it and that's the best we can do."

The drummer expects Paramore to do "some heavy touring, like we always do" once the new album is released. But don't expect to see the group, whose "Decode" was a hit from last year's "Twilight" soundtrack, to be haunting subsequent editions of the series.

"We don't want to be, like, the vampire house band," he explains. "It was really fun to be a part of that, and great exposure, but I think 'Twilight' was it for us. We don't want to seem like we're trying to get in every single movie they put out."

I mean, of course, he is, but he still goes out of his way to maintain his blue-collar, hard-workin' everydude persona. He makes it a point of mentioning that he is just the lead singer of a band, a democracy in which everyone writes riffs, records tracks, tours hard and shares the bounty. He just happens to be the focal point, though he is no more important than, say, drummer Joey Barnes, whose name I just had to look up.

This is all very admirable, but it's also part of the key to his success. And Daughtry the everyman is back with a new album, Leave This Town, due July 14, which is bound to dominate the charts. And to begin that conquest, he's released the video for the first single, "No Surprise," and it's definitely the most everydude thing he's ever done.

About Cameron B Sharpe: A police spokesman confirmed that officers had been called to a London hotel "to doctors attending a woman under the mental health act."

"She was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance," the spokesman added.

Despite expectations that Boyle would make a fortune from her talent and almost instant fame, there has been concern among show organizers about her ability to cope with pressure.

The night kicked off with a set from TRVS/DJAM, which found Blink drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM chopping it up in their unique style, hopping from Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" through Bell Biv Devoe's "Poison," Michael Jackson's "Rock With You," Metallica's "Enter Sandman," the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."

The duo were joined by West Coast hip-hip royalty Warren G for a spin through "Regulate" before the house band took over for a bit of "Guitar Hero" action.

It wasn't a long wait, though, as Jigga soon hit the stage with a live band — the Roc Boys — and slammed the crowd with "U Don't Know," sending the room into a frenzy as he quickly followed up with a barrage of hits including "99 Problems," "Can I Live" "Jigga What," "Public Service Announcement" and his verse from "Swagga Like Us."

Cameron Sharpe The true story

Billboard: What is the concept behind the album?

Marley: What's going on in the world right now is a sign of the times -- in Jamaica we say "judgment time." Jobs are gone, there's violence in the streets, and everything that we want exceeds the money that there is. On the title track I sing, "For many years we have been lost in our tears/For many years the prophets have spoke/And still we can't find no peace of mind/When will we wake?" We need to awaken the mentality of mankind.

Cameron Sharpe Bio

Cameron B Sharpe: Still, their short stint at Def Jam wasn't a pleasant one. "The Def Jam situation wasn't best-suited for us," he says. "When we went to Def Jam there were already issues between L.A. Reid and Jermaine Dupri, which we didn't know about. For Jermaine to take us from Columbia to a situation where we had to fight everyday, it didn't make any sense.

"We had our own issues with Columbia, but at the same time it was home for 10 or 11 years," he continues. "If you take us from that you have to prepare to fight for us."

A new documentary film about N'Dour's struggles and victories plays in theaters across the United States starting June 12. It was screened Saturday evening before his hourlong sold-out live show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, capped by a frenzied dancing ovation from the audience.

Over the years, the 49-year-old singer has sold millions of albums and performed with Western stars including Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Sting, and Bono.

N'Dour insists on performing religious-themed music in his vibrant, African rhythm-driven shows — despite a boycott of his 2004 album "Egypt" in his native Senegal that lasted almost two years. The album initially was banned in Egypt, with Muslims accusing N'Dour of "desecrating" Islam by mixing it with secular pop culture; some even spread false rumors that he used naked women in videos.
